Nielsen Associates is seeking a Senior SQL Database Administrator to work in a New York location. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity. The ideal candidate would be able to demonstrate a grasp of advanced SQL query techniques, have working experience with automating export/import tasks using DTS (including the ActiveX Script component) and have excellent understanding of SQL Server architecture, administration and security The primary work would be with the development team to develop customized applications including providing advice on logical and physical data models as well as helping with performance tuning. This position would also be responsible for all production SQL Server instances.
1) Coding SQL Stored procedures
2) Deploying builds to SQL environments, generating build scripts
3) Managing backups, optimizations, replication, etc
4) Performing database maintenance operations
5) Creating DTS packages for ETL Operations Required Skills: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or Computer Sciences and/or Relevant Work Experience.
• Expertise with configuring, implementing and supporting high availability strategies with SQL Server including SQL Clustering and Replication
• DTS. Expert Level (including ActiveX Scripting)
• Expert in Stored Procedures and SQL Coding
• Ad-Hoc SQL Queries
• Query Performance Tuning
• Database Design & Architecture
• Thorough knowledge of hardware systems, RAID and disk subsystems.
• Proactive monitoring and ability Identify troubleshoot and resolve real-time database systems issues.
• Manage DB maintenance activities including Backups, index re-orgs, integrity, and consistency checks
• 3-5+ years of Database Administration experience,
• 3-5 years DBA experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 in an production environment
• Expert level Data/ Schema modeling for complex logical database designs and relational database concepts (normalization etc).
• Advanced ability to analyze and architect data and data models/schema,
• SQL Reporting Services/ General Reporting
Highly Desirable:
• Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence Experience (Cognos, Analysis Services, etc)
• Experience in very large scale data bases
• .Net programming (C# especially)
• SQL 2005 understanding/ experience
• Advanced queries, TSQL
• Advanced DTS systems (including ActiveX scripting)
• Indexing/ Query optimization
• Basic design and implementation of database objects
• Basic administration and maintenance
• C#/ .Net programming
• SQL 2005 knowledge
• Business intelligence tools (SQL Server Analysis Services, Cognos, etc.)
• Problem-solving
